Let’s get my obligatory paintball plug out of the way right away… RSVP now!! OK, on with the show. Well, the happy fun smiley news just keeps rolling in! Cooked Korean food last night with the crew, then Christine calls to tell me she has finally done it; as of three weeks from today, she will no longer work for the swine at her law firm. She will be a proud member of the research staff at Inform, Inc. She’ll be passing gas on garbage trucks. I couldn’t resist. She’ll be studying the feasibility of converting all of NYC’s garbage trucks and taxis to natural gas fuel. A truly noble endeavor. And the total paintball RSVP tally is up to 8 people confirmed, another 5 people verbally committed, and about 3 or 4 more who have given me maybes. All good, happy news.

Wheee!!! Things are going swell at work, the company is growing by leaps and bounds. I just closed a deal that is worth a nice little sum of cash for everyone involved. I also have a few big name clients lined up and ready to drop some cash on us. Woohoo! I also found out that my friend Jared Vallejo just got done shooting a commercial for Miller beer in Mexico City. I am so glad he found some work, and I can’t wait to see him frolicking around Mexico with a frothy beer in his hand. So here is the plan: As soon as we all see the new commercials for Miller come out, everyone go buy a whole bunch of their beer. They will trace the phenomenal spike in sales back to that incredibly attractive young actor from L.A. and will shower him with cash and incentives to make a feature length movie based on the commercial about a little mexican boy who is searching for the perfect beer. He promised us all kickbacks. Somewhat in the same vein, my friend Kyle is coming to see me (finally!) from Seattle. Gee, I have only been here for a year and a half and my friends are just now getting around to coming to see me. It’s not like it is more than $225 roundtrip on Jet Blue. Anyhoo, for you who wanted to go camping with me this weekend, you will have to be without my boyscouting skills. Apologies all around, I did want to go. But it might be another year and a half before Kyle comes out here again. Note to all others, I am NOT cancelling the White Water Rafting camping trip, for which you can and SHOULD get motivated to RSVP for. Enough shameless plugs, but I do need a headcount before I make the reservation, as they are booking up for that weekend. OK, enough from me. Until next time, kiddies!!

https://ammonbrown.com/2003/04/why-can-i-not-think-of-anything/
Why can I not think of anything interesting to say? Oh, yeah, because I am not interesting. You may have noticed that I changed the title of my page. It may change again until I find something that works. I also added links on the left side of the page, so have a look at those. I finally linked Christine, which I hadn’t done before because she uses profanity and my family comes to my site occasionally. But what the hell, she is my wife and I love her, and that is just who she is. Ain’t she great? I also added JD and a link to my old resume, which I forgot was still posted here. It is old and I am not looking, so don’t ask. I swear, I get more calls from recruiters… I am so delusional. Actually, the new title of the blog refers more to how I feel about life. I am pretty complacent right now, happy to go to work, eat, sleep, and then do it all over again. I never thought I would be the type to become a drone, but it ain’t so bad. I really like my job and the immense potential this company exhibits. Christine, on the other hand, hates her job and it shows. I keep trying to encourage her to quit but there are obstacles to doing so. “My boss needs me,” “I am afraid to tell them,” “We can’t lose our dental insurance,” et cetera. Meanwhile she still hates it and it affects her mood. So I say again, “QUIT!” They’ll get over it and we can get dental for probably less than we pay now. I apologize for the mini rant, but this is becoming more of an issue in my life, not that you care. OK, I gotta get back to my static complacency now. Our weekly cooking club at Yoshi’s gets underway in an hour and will no doubt continue until three AM, completely screwing over my drone schedule. Oh, well, my peeps are worth it.

Sometimes I hate what a dork I am. I spent the entire evening building a mini site for a paintball trip I am planning. Writing the site took way too long, not because it took me any time to write it, but because I spent a ton of time trying to get some scripts running to have a message board, a mailing list, and a guestbook up and running. I finally just linked to a feedback page on BackBlog. Oh, well. This paintball trip is going to be sooooooo sweet that I might combust with the hot flames of anticipation! Check out the site and I am sure you will agree!
https://ammonbrown.com/2003/03/oh-huzzah-at-long-last-i-finally/
Oh, Huzzah! At long last, I finally posted my picture pages! You can see them here. I put up the old pictures from Browntribe as well as a bunch of new ones from our trip to Costa Rica and Mexico. I was up all night perfecting a script to automatically publish these, so y’all better appreciate what I go through for your mild bemusement. I have yet more plans for this little site, so stay tuned. I also came across some fun little poetry by my old friend Dave Huseby, who, by the way, I think I just tracked down through a google search. It would be interesting if he tracked me down the same way one of these days. Anyway, I’ll post that because it is amusing. It is right here. Remember this, Dave?
Anyhoo, I Had an interesting day today. I was walking down the street very close to my old apartment on Bleecker Street with JD and Christine and this woman walks up and tells us that she bets we are jobless and just sucking up society’s energy. She said, “I bet you didn’t even go to college!” Of course we all replied that we all had, and that both of them went to Columbia. She decided to pick on JD, so she asked him what he studied. When he said computers, she said that any five year old could run a computer. Such vitriol! Now this is not even the amusing part. I know this woman. She looked bad when I met her, but she looked worse now and pretty much homeless. She once bummed a few quarters from me to do laundry and then proceeded to share all of her delusionary ramblings with me. For an hour. She lives in a huge apartment in the village and pays $150 per month because she was born and raised there in the 50s. The New York Times has repeatedly refused to print her articles. I didn’t have a chance to dig into her today because she huffed off to bother other people. Anyway, she did not need any crap from me. She looked like Ellen Burstyn toward the end of Requiem for a Dream. Not pleasant. But I found it amusing that she judged us so quickly when it was I who knew much more about her than she did me. Oh, well. These are the crazy people we meet here in New York City. I love this city!
For both of my regular readers, I know I promised a rant on the media, but that will just have to wait. Maybe tomorrow.
https://ammonbrown.com/2003/03/hello-all-i-had-interesting-discussion/
Hello, All! I had an interesting discussion about the war last night. While watching the Oscars, we watched Michael Moore go on a rant, which I of course saw coming. But I was asked my opinion on this war by a friend, and I thought about it for a minute. I guess I have been pro war for about a year or so, simply because it is the only path that will get us out of the mess that Dubya got us into with his axis of evil tirade. All of his self righteous zeal gained us the ire of the rest of the world, and if we back down we lose every shred of credibility we ever had in the Arab world. This is not to say that I think it is the right thing to do. If Dubya had asked me before he set his sights on Iraq, I’d have advised him to let it go, Saddam learned his lesson despite his bombastic macho bluster. But when Bush started his own macho bluster, we had to back it up. The alternative would be to allow Saddam to claim victory, as he did in 1991. I am somewhat ambivalent about Bush getting macho in the first place. I do think we need to make an example of someone in the Arab world who has a real army (i.e. not Afghanistan) in order to send a message that we are not to be messed with. However, I don’t think that a Texas Oilman who’s father was in a fight with the same country and is spewing as much good versus evil rhetoric as most islamic extremists is the man to be doing this. Sure we should be in this war. But only to cover for the diplomatic, rhetorical, and idealogical blunders of our President. If he had begun building up troops AFTER the diplomatic effort failed, if he had not completely dismissed all of the reports by the weapons inspectors, and if he had not singled out Iraq as a threat in the first place, we would not need to be at war now. However, Saddam is a threat to his neighbors and some of his people. He has demonstrated this before. But rushing to war to catch the nice springtime weather is not the way to deal with him. I would prefer to pursue a diplomatic resolution under a different president and, failing that, to heavily finance the Kurds and other groups to fight a proxy war. That way we are standing up for our democratic ideals without being viewed as aggressive invaders. But since we are already in this thing, and have been since Bush first publicly denounced Saddam, I support this war as the necessary course of action, necessitated by misguided rhetoric and machismo.
And by the way, I found a few places to go for news beyond what you get from CNN and their ilk. For a bias the other way, check out Jihad UnSpun or Yellow Times. I don’t always agree with them, but we all benefit from a different perspective. Stay tuned for my media rant tomorrow. How exciting!

OK, Hopefully the new site is up and running. THis is primarily a test.
https://ammonbrown.com/2003/03/sorry-i-have-been-off-of-this-thing/
Sorry I have been off of this thing for a while. It would seem that my old host has now moved their servers, but I am going to be placing my site with a new host now, so it will be down again. It is killing me. I went to Chicago (the city, not the movie) on Wednesday, and have still not recovered fully. Noble, on the other hand, is recovering nicely, so thank you all for caring. Gotta sign off, I am trying to keep up some positive momentum at work.
