Welts, rain, and disappointments. Well, paintball turned out to be a mixed bag. All of us there had a blast slogging through the mud and shooting each other without mercy. I tell you, there is nothing like laying seige to a castle full of 14 year olds with guns. Makes you feel so manly. I escaped paintball with only one welt, which is rather upsetting. Our opponents seem to have lousy aim. Our whitewater rafting adventure was neither whitewater nor an adventure. Due to the high water they would not take us down the challenging portions of the river, so we floated down flat water for two hours and chatted with our guide. Kind of boring. All said and done, the weather was not our friend. I do not mind the rain itself, but it caused too many disruptions. A lot of people cancelled, the rafting trip was changed around, and driving there and back was not as easy as I would have hoped. And I was very disappointed with the turnout. This is not to say that I am upset with any one person in particular. All 6-7 people who cancelled had valid cop outs. It is more along the lines that I am annoyed in general that things have a tendency to work out this way. Not a big deal, since all deposits were refundable and we still had a blast in our small numbers. Oh, and a huge round of applause for Albert’s friend Eric and his crew for making up the difference when we needed number and for providing the extra firepower we needed. Thanks, guys (and you too, Anne) for showing up and sticking it out through the puddles. In conclusion, I would say that while it would have been nice to have more people there, we all had a blast regardless. For those of you who cancelled, try to make it next time. So I can shoot you twice as much! It will happen again later this summer on a larger scale, so stay tuned!

Fo’ Shizzle, Dizzle! For those of you learning to speak English but would rather read my blog in Shizzle (Snoop Dogg’s native tongue), May I present my site translated into Shizzle… Courtesy of the Shizzolator at AskSnoop.com. Try it, you like it.
https://ammonbrown.com/2003/06/ok-apologies-for-not-posting-in-while/
OK, apologies for A: Not posting in a while and B: Posting twice in rapid succession. If you did not read my last post, you need to do so, it is important. Christine and I went to Cornell this weekend to check the place out, since she will be going to Law School there and all. Ithaca is a beautiuful town. One might say Ithaca is gorges. The campus is huge, spanning more than 700 acres. The town itself seemed to be populated primarily by hippies and gays, but that was due to the lack of demographic diluting Ivy Leaguers and the fact that it is pride month, the time to rise up and march! The campus is incredible, I just can’t say enough about it. Because Christine will be going to law school there for three years, I am considering making a run at their Business School next year. That will have us both graduating at the same time. In the interim, I can’t leave my job when things are going so well, and she cannot pass up the opportunity to go to Cornell. So we will be a commuting couple, restricted to seeing each other on weekends and holidays. Not a pleasant prospect, so this is why I want to have the option to go to Cornell for business school. Not that I will, especially if Christine can transfet to an NYC school, but I want the option. To this end, I have signed up to take an intensive GMAT prep course at Manhattan GMAT. My first class was last night, and it looks to be intense. The instructor is on break from Harvard Business School, and I would bet she is somewhat intelligent. Anyhoo, I am looking forward to studying up for this thing over the next nine weeks. Phew! Now y’all are up to date!

“Maybe it is your animal magnetism” And with those words, Jared Vallejo was launched into stardom. My TV popped itself on this morning at the usual 7 AM, and what should I see, not 15 minutes into SportsCenter? Why none other than Jared Vallejo in a Miller Lite commercial! Expect sales of Miller Lite to skyrocket in the next few weeks. For those of you wondering which central plot-driving character he is, you will see the side of his face for about three seconds after his friend runs away from a charging bull. I thought the entire commercial made very little sense and the plot was convoluted and choppy, and the acting was terrible. Then, 27 seconds into the film, a stunning young actor delivered the climactic line, tying the whole story together in a wry twist that brought me quivering to my knees, both overwhelmed by the dramatic delivery and awed by the stunning conclusion of the film. Oh, Jared, you saved this potential disaster from itself, and elevated beer advertising to a fine art form! Bravo, Jared, Bravo! FYI, it is not posted online yet, but I will link to it when it is. Cheerio, pip pip!

https://ammonbrown.com/2003/06/go-mariners-christine-and-i-had-chance/
Go, Mariners! Christine and I had a chance to see a doubleheader today, the mariners against the Mets. Shea Stadium is a nice place, an even nicer place when we get to watch the Mariners lay a spanking on the Mets there two games in a row! I tell you what, it si a good time to be a baseball fan. Nice day, two games, hot dogs, and wins! Hooray! Other good news to report… Christine received an acceptance offer to Cornell law school. She now has an opportunity to go to a top ranked, Ivy league school, an opportunity that cannot be passed up. Ithaca is fairly close to NYC, so we will have to figure out how we are going to balance her school and my job. I like my job a lot, it offers great opportunity for me, and the economy sucks. So we will have to make some decisions in the next few months. But no matter, I am sure we’ll be fine, just fine. More to come!
https://ammonbrown.com/2003/06/wow-few-new-fun-things-to-report-my/
Wow, a few new fun things to report! My friend Brad insisted that I sign up for Friendster, so I did so. It is sort of a six degrees of separation crossed with a dating site. And no, I am not there to get a date, I am there to facilitate others. It is pretty cool. If you know me, and you would not be here if you don’t (unless you have nothing but time to waste), you should sign up here. I am curious to see how my life in intertwined with others. I have also linked my Amazon Wish List from the left sidebar. I don’t want anything from there, but I figured I’d link it anyway. The final tidbit I have for you all is that Paintball and Whitewater rafting has changed slightly, so check the site for updates. For those of you who have already signed up, there will be more updates to come.

A rather amusing little piece of advertising (direct link to video!)… A little risque, but very apropos for our time. Big thanks to Steve Hall of AdRants. If anyone of you are in advertising or just interested in it, I recommend his daily newsletter.
And what kind of weather is this? It’s kind of crap! It has been so rainy here, I miss the sunny climate of Seattle! Don’t believe me? New York gets 25% more rainfall than Seattle per year on average. Data from New York compared to Seattle. Hence the dreariness.
https://ammonbrown.com/2003/06/paintball-update-for-all-of-you-who/
Paintball Update! For all of you who are planning on attending my little paintball/whitewater rafting excursion, there have been some changes. There was a problem with the reservation, so I have been forced to switch the days on which each activity will take place. For most of you this will not make a difference, but I know one or two people were planning on one activity only. Please check your status and reconfirm with me by emailing me. I will be sending out an email soon to let people know and give one last valiant recruitment effort.

My friend Jared is a stinking genius. He did not really like Blogger’s software, so he built his own. I must say, it is quite impressive. It is an ASP based system backed with a SQL database. He has been making tweaks like cookies for the comments and creating an archive system. I encourage you all to go to his site, play with the software, and post suggestions and kudos in the comments.
By way of update on my little court case, the landlady filed for an adjournment this morning, as expected. Then a really strange thing happened… She is kind of old and told me she does not get around well. So, being the boy scout that I am, I offered to cab her home and escort her to her door. Amazingly, she accepted. I then took a cab ride with a woman who is suing me and vise versa. We actually had a very pleasant conversation about the weather, city life, and our families. Surreal.
Speaking of surreal, I got an email through Classmates.com from a friend from High School, Yuko Ariga. Hi, Yuko! We met for coffee near Union Square to catch up. It is amazing to see how much and yet how little people change. She had been a little bit introverted yet goofy. Now she seems very, very happy. I guess she got an accounting degree, worked for a year as an accountant, then woke up one day and decided she was miserable. So she eventually became a flight attendant for Delta, and loves it. Next time you think your life is droning on, I suggest you take a lesson from Yuko and shake things up a little. You will be happy you did. She is.
It sure seems that I have a lot going on lately. Apologies for two lengthy entries in one day, but I felt compelled to share and share a lot. You know you love it, you cyber-voyeurs!
